SK finds oil off Vietnamese southern coast

SK Energy Co. has found oil reserves at an oil block off Vietnam's southern coast.

The company said Sunday exploratory drilling at the offshore Lac Da Vang prospect, produced up to 3,500 barrels per day of high-quality, 43-degree API oil. It is located at the southern part of the 15-1/05 oil block.

SK Energy owns a 25 percent stake in the oil block located 180 kilometers southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. Phu Quy Petroleum Co., a subsidiary of state-run Petrovietnam Exploration and Production Corp., is the operator of the block with a 40 percent share while Total E&P Vietnam, a company belonging to France's Total S.A., owns 35 percent.

The discovery follows a find last October in the same oil block that produced 4,300 barrels of crude oil per day.
