Government sets out to help families of fallen servicemen

An association set up to provide compensation and assistance to families of fallen servicemen was introduced yesterday in Hanoi at its first congress for the 2010-2015 period.
At the first congress of the Association to Assist Families of Fallen Servicemen, Lieutenant General Le Van Han presented VND 30 million to help flood victims in the central region
Organised to assist families of fallen soldiers to have a better life and help them find their remains, the association was introduced in the presence of Deputy Prime Ministers Pham Gia Khiem and Nguyen Thien Nhan, former minister of the Ministry of Health, Tran Thi Trung Chien and hundreds of families of fallen servicemen.
As head of the association, Lieutenant General Le Van Han, vice chief of the Political General Department of the Vietnam People's Army said, “After the two devastating wars, hundreds of thousands of fallen soldiers are still unidentified while tens of thousands of others are still missing. We’ve been making large efforts to set up the 'Association to Assist Families of Fallen Servicemen' to serve the search and identification of the remains of unknown soldiers. The association will be operated as a non-profit.”
Addressing the association’s congress, Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan affirmed that the association's activities will contribute more to help ease the pain of relatives of fallen soldiers. He also suggested the association should work with schools to help students realise the great sacrifice and contribution of the fallen soldiers for the sake of the country.
