HCMC police arrest speed racers

Police impounded more than 500 motorbikes and arrested dozens of youths who were planning an illegal speed ride through the streets of Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday night.
Many of the youths escaped and left their motorbikes behind after being approached, Binh Thanh District police said.
It was alleged the 20-member group was planning a speed ride, to be accompanied by the noise of modified exhaust pipes.
An estimated 1,000 people were present to watch and cheer the group.
Police spokesmen said the catch was their biggest so far in the fight against illegal motorbike racing. Violators would receive a heavy fine.
