Hundreds of reckless racers illegally hit the streets and drove at high speeds as they tried to evade police. However, thanks to a well-prepared plan, the police managed to arrest a large majority of the racers.

During the afternoon of October 24, the police of Binh Thanh District had imposed administrative punishment on these motor racers for breaking traffic laws.

In the evening of October 23, police and other functional forces of Binh Thanh District were mobilised to disrupt the race. They were assigned specific duties in a bid to identify leaders and organisers of the race.

Roads such as Van Kiep, Hoang Hoa Tham, Dinh Tien Hoang, Bach Dang, D2, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh, Dien Bien Phu, Ung Van Khiem were filled with the noisy sound of engines and horns.

At 11pm of October 23, hundreds of motor racers gathered on Hoang Hoa Tham Road and many of them started exciting those who were cheering them by performing wheelies and other dangerous tricks.

Waiting until they all gathered, the police then swarmed the scene and arrested them. Many of them tried to escape by speeding and driving dangerously. On Hoang Hoa Tham Road, hundreds of racers were arrested and 116 motor bikes were confiscated.

While punishment procedures were in process, the police were informed that another illegal race had been organised at Binh Quoi, Binh Thanh District.

At 4am of October 24, Binh Quoi Road was filled with nearly 700 motorcycles. Many people had to stop at the roadside so that the racers had enough space for their performances which caused fear in many on the side.

Many of them tried to run away into resident areas to hide and many others speeded up to escape but they did not succeed.

At 9am, nearly 600 motorbikes were taken to the People’s Committee of Binh Thanh District.
Lieutenant-colonel Nguyen Dinh Vinh, Vice Manager of the Traffic Police Division under the Binh Thanh Police Department said that they had pursued the largest number of illegal motor racers so far. Although the police had solutions to prevent illegal motor races, they were not effective. The pursuit marks a turning point in preventing “night storms” in the city.
