Party Chief welcomes overseas Vietnamese delegation

The General Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party, Nong Duc Manh, held a meeting with 50 overseas Vietnamese (Viet Kieu) on October 6.

The guests represented a delegation of nearly 200 overseas Vietnamese from 34 countries and territories that have come to the country to join in the celebrations for the capital city’s 1,000 year anniversary.

Many party and government officials also attended the meeting.

Manh hailed Viet Kieu for their enthusiasm to participate in the dragon festival and as well as their great contributions to the cause of national construction and development over the past years.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Vong, a Vietnamese Australian said, “We are very happy to come back to the capital city on this occasion. We want to express our gratefulness to the Vietnamese Party and the State for offering the most favorable conditions for us.”

During the remaining days of the festival, the guests will continue participating in a calligraphy exhibition at the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam), visit Quan Su Pagoda and enjoy a parade.

Currently, more than three million Vietnamese people are living in foreign countries and territories, mostly in the U.S., Cambodia, France, Australia, Canada and Taiwan.
