A big explosion took place at 11.40 AM today at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, when two fireworks containers on Platform C caught fire. Investigators reported that the main cause was some carelessness during the process of transport.
Lieutenant-General Nguyen Duc Nhanh, Director of the Hanoi Police Bureau, confirmed the cause of the accident.Four deaths and three injuries were reported.
The fireworks were imported by the Hanoi-based company INTERSERCO to serve the art performance scheduled on October 10.
Hanoi’s police quickly stamped out the fire, cured the victims and investigated the case.
This is an unfortunate incident but it will not affect the security work during the coming grand anniversary of Thang Long–Hanoi, said Lieutenant-General Nhanh.
