The Hanoi Water Drainage Company has announced water from all systems of rivers and lakes have been maintained at the lowest possible level. Water pumping stations will be operating at full capacity and mobile water pumps will be used around important areas of the events to in case there is rain.

According to Nguyen Le, general director of the Hanoi Water Drainage Company, water from the entire drainage system has been kept at the lowest level possible in order to ensure that water will be able to be drained if there is rain and to increase the system’s capacity.

The company will also mobilise all staff with all of its transportation vehicles, equipment and facilities.

Pumping stations will be operating at full capacity in order to drain water from internal areas of Hanoi to the Nhue River. Meanwhile, all sewer gates leading to the river will be closed in order to prevent water from the river spilling into internal areas of the city.

Le added that if there were heavy rains, mobile pumps would be used to enhance the drainage capability and shorten the flood duration.

Water will be drained off first at locations of meetings, marches, entertainment and recreation activities as well as bus stations, railway stations, large hotels and important roads. They include Ba Dinh square and its neighbouring areas, Hoan Kiem Lake area, the Cultural Friendship Palace, the National Convention Centre and all routes on which guests and delegations will travel into and out of the city.

Should there be flooding, once the situation is controlled at the above mentioned areas, the whole team will move to other affected areas in the city.

There is also a plan to drain off water from roads which will be closed during the event.
