Central floods leave 66 dead, 17 missing

Rain-triggered floods have left 66 people dead, with 17 still missing in central provinces as of Monday, according to the National Committee for Floods Prevention and Control.
A further 75 people were injured during the floods, the committee says.
The floods caused an estimated damage worth over VND2.5 trillion (US$127.5 million), of which nearly VND1.4 trillion is from Quang Binh province, leaving 100,000 people in need of fresh water.
Tuoi Tre readers have by far collected VND2.2 billion as relief aid to flood-affected residents.
As of October 7, a large number of agencies, organizations and individuals across the country had registered and donated more than VND20.8 billion to the flood victims.
The Chinese Red Cross has decided to grant $50,000 as relief aid to flood victims in central provinces.
Earlier, the Chinese Embassy also donated $10,000 to the victims.
